The Afghanistan Basketball Federation has introduced a new young player, who it says could become a prospect for the national team, after identifying 19-year-old Asif Khan during training activities in Kabul.
Federation officials said Asif Khan, who is from Paktia province, stands 2.22 metres tall and has recently joined basketball, starting his basic training under local coaches in the capital.
Officials said they are working to support the player’s development, but noted that he faces a major challenge due to a medical condition affecting both knees, which has caused changes in the shape of his joints.
The player has called for support from the federation, government institutions and the private sector to help him receive proper treatment and continue training.
Federation representatives stated that if Asif Khan receives medical care and recovers fully, he could become a valuable addition to Afghanistan’s basketball programme and deliver strong results for the country in the future.
Afghanistan’s basketball development programmes rely heavily on local training structures, with emerging talents often needing additional support to access proper medical care and long-term development opportunities.
