Media Friendship Cricket Tournament organized in Kabul

KABUL, May 15, 2016 – For the first time in Afghanistan SportsJournalists Federation (ASJF) history,  an Inter-Media Cricket tournament kicked off on Friday.

The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation started the initiative of working with journalists who are working in the field of cricket and educating them in thespecific field with practical exercises.

As many as six teams from different media networks will compete in the Inter-media Cricket Tournament which commenced at the Salim Karwan ground in Ahmad Shah Baba Mena, on Friday.

The media cricketers will tried to prove theirabilities in 15-overs matches on the green turf. The six teams were distributed in two groups that would compete for the title.

The tournament is set to conclude with thefinal match on May 20. Unlike the regular leather ball, the organizers haveopted to use tennis balls wrapped with plastic taps to make it travel faster.

Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation President SayerZaland Said that the aim is to bring sports journalists together and bring more opportunities in the field. 

“We report on sports so there is an importantneed for every journalists to know about sports and to have the oppportunities to play the sport they report on in a professional way,” the ASJF President added.

CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board Mr. Shafiq Stanikay also congratulated ASJFfor making the tournament and promised to support future such initiatives with morefacilities.

During the opening ceremony of the tournament, Stanikay said that the Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation is doing their best, congratulating them on the way they are working on professionalism in Afghanistan.

The six teams competing in the cricket tournament are all from well known Afghan mediaorganizations.

The Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation has its own team called AJCC, while the other teams are from Shamshan Network, The Killid Group Media Organization, Radio Azadi, Spinghar Talent Sports Association and Kabul Media.

During the first day of the tournament AJCC lost their opening match to the Radio Azadi cricket team, while Kabul Media cricket team lost to SpingharTalent Sports Association.
