Jawzjan: The Jawzjan Premier Football League officially kicked off on September 5, featuring 10 teams set to battle for the provincial title.

Under the tournament’s format, the two lowest-ranked teams will be relegated, while two newcomers from Group “A” will advance. The league’s top two sides will also qualify for the upcoming zonal competitions, giving local talent a pathway to broader recognition.

“This league is a valuable opportunity for young athletes to develop their skills in a competitive environment,” said Mohammad Mashal Hashemi, deputy director for technical and professional affairs at Jawzjan’s Department of Physical Education and Sports. “Its impact on raising the level of football in the province is undeniable.”

Players, too, are preparing for a highly competitive season. Waleed Ishaqzai, last season’s best player, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness: “We have been training regularly, and our goal is not just to win the championship but also to secure a spot in the zonal competition with a strong performance,” he told reporters.

The Jawzjan Premier League has been a fixture of the province’s sporting calendar for more than 12 years, contributing significantly to the growth of football and the morale of local athletes. Last year’s champions were Modern Club, while Ishaqzai was named the league’s top player.
