Manchester: England produced a record shattering performance in the second T20I against South Africa at Old Trafford, crushing the Proteas by 146 runs to level the three match series 1-1.
Phil Salt led the team with a blazing 141 not out off just 60 balls, the highest individual T20I score for an English player ever, and the fastest century by any English batter, reaching his hundred in just 39 balls. Salt’s 100 was supported by Jos Buttler’s 83 off only 34, and with a quick cameo from Harry Brock, England posted a massive 304 for 2, the third highest in the format’s history.
South Africa’s bowling attack, featuring Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Lizaad Williams, endured a nightmare, conceding 30 fours and 18 sixes.
Chasing 305, South Africa never threatened the target despite Aiden Markram’s quickfire 41. Jofra Archer made a stunning return, claiming 3 for 25 and taking multiple catches, while Sam Curran starred with 2 for 11 using his clever variations.
South Africa folded for just 158 in 16.4 overs, handing England their biggest ever T20I victory.
The series decider and final match will be played on Sunday.
