
Athletes line up as Kabul hosts the national Wushu tournament, featuring 150 competitors from 12 provinces. Athletes from 12 provinces compete for the “Asian Medalists Cup” in three age categories

The national Wushu Federation of Afghanistan, under the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, has launched a major Wushu tournament in Kabul featuring 150 athletes from 12 provinces.
The event, titled the “Asian Medalists Cup”, honors Afghan athletes who brought home medals from the Asian Wushu Championships hosted by China.
The opening ceremony, held at the federation’s central gymnasium, was attended by senior officials, including Hafez Ahmad Jan Zadran, Deputy for Technical and Professional Affairs of the General Directorate, Molavi Atiqullah Khalid, Head of Kabul Physical Education and Sports, Syed Mobasher Agha, Vice President of the Wushu Federation, sports officials, athletes, and fans from across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Zadran praised the federation’s initiative and stressed the importance of such competitions for athlete development: “This tournament is a major step in motivating and encouraging our athletes,” he said. “The Sports Directorate will always support them to the best of its capacity.”
Molavi Atiqullah Khalid added that Kabul would ensure the tournament is hosted professionally and with full hospitality, reflecting the city’s commitment to sports growth.
The competition, which features three age categories, juniors, youth, and adults, will run for three days, bringing together some of the country’s top Wushu talent in a bid for national recognition.
