A seven-member mountaineering team from the central office of Afghanistan’s National Mountaineering Federation, in coordination with the Balkh Provincial Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, successfully climbed the heights of the Ali Bator Mountains in Charkent district on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

According to local officials, the climb covered a 2,100-meter route and was organized as a one-day expedition to promote the culture of mountaineering and enhance the physical fitness of participants. The event was part of ongoing efforts by the federation to encourage outdoor sports and strengthen community engagement through adventure activities.

Mountaineering has gained growing popularity among Afghan youth in recent years, particularly in northern provinces like Balkh, Samangan, and Bamyan, known for their scenic and challenging peaks. The National Mountaineering Federation continues to organize such expeditions to develop skills, build teamwork, and inspire interest in environmental conservation and active lifestyles.
