Afghanistan has achieved a historic milestone at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, currently underway in Bahrain, ranking seventh overall among 45 participating nations and fourth in the Kurash team standings.

The Afghan delegation, consisting of 31 athletes across eight sports disciplines, has so far earned two bronze medals in Kurash, the country’s first-ever medals in the history of the Asian Youth Games.

“These victories mark a new chapter for Afghan sport and inspire hope for future achievements,” officials said, calling the medals a breakthrough moment for the nation’s youth athletes.

The ongoing games, which began earlier this week, feature young athletes from across Asia competing in various disciplines, including wrestling, WTF taekwondo, jujitsu, judo, futsal, boxing, and martial arts, where Afghan competitors still hold medal hopes.

Launched in 2009, the Asian Youth Games are held every four years. This year’s edition in Bahrain will continue through October 31.
