A one-day stone-throwing tournament was held in Kapisa province on Wednesday with 35 participants competing in an effort to revive traditional Afghan sports. The event was organised by the National and Local Games Directorate in collaboration with the Kapisa Department of Physical Education and Sports.
Zabet secured first place, while Darwish claimed third position after a series of competitive rounds. Organisers said the competition was designed to strengthen interest in indigenous sports and encourage public participation across the province.
Officials and local sports representatives attended the event, praising athletes for preserving traditional games that hold cultural significance within Afghan communities.
Traditional sports such as stone-throwing, wrestling, and buzkashi remain significant elements of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage. Local authorities are expanding efforts to revive these activities through structured provincial competitions.
