The first zone-level powerlifting competition involving athletes from five provinces concluded in Nangarhar, marking a significant step in the regional development of the sport.
The event was organised in coordination with the Nangarhar Department of Physical Education and Sports, in joint cooperation with the Afghanistan National Powerlifting and Strongman Federation and the Nangarhar Powerlifting Federation. Competitions were held at the sports gymnasium of District Three in Jalalabad city.
A total of 80 athletes from Khost, Parwan, Ghor, Kabul, host province Nangarhar, and the Interior Ministry took part in the championships. The contests were held across junior, youth, senior and veteran age groups, as well as multiple weight categories.
At the conclusion of the event, athletes representing the Interior Ministry secured first place overall, followed by Nangarhar in second and Parwan in third. Ghor athlete Nazir Ahmad Rahimi was named overall champion after claiming top honours across all weight categories.
The two-day competition was held to promote the growth of powerlifting in Nangarhar and to introduce structured zone-level events, providing a competitive platform for identifying emerging strength athletes across eastern Afghanistan.
