A local Rustami wrestling competition was held in Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, bringing together athletes from across the province in a one-day event, organisers said.
The competition took place at Chaman-e-Omid in Zaranj and was organised by local wrestlers in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education and Sports. Athletes from Nimroz province, along with Mujahideen and students from religious schools, took part in the matches.
Officials attending the event included Qari Ahmad Shah Mobarez, Head of Physical Education and Sports in Nimroz, Mawlawi Yar Mohammad Haqyar, Head of External Relations, Mawlawi Nasrullah, Head of the Breshna Department, along with other sports officials, representatives of various institutions, athletes and members of the public.
A total of 30 wrestlers competed in the event, which lasted for one day.
Organisers said the competition was aimed at promoting and developing wrestling and encouraging broader public participation in sport across the province.
Traditional wrestling remains a popular sport in several Afghan provinces, with local competitions playing an important role in sustaining athletic activity and community engagement.
