The Afghanistan national football team suffered a 2–1 defeat to Myanmar in their opening match of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign.

Captain Omid Popalzay scored Afghanistan’s only goal of the match, but it was not enough to prevent an early setback in the competition.

Afghanistan will now turn its focus to the next fixture against Syria, scheduled to be played in Saudi Arabia, as the team looks to recover momentum in the qualification race.
