Afghanistan’s U-17 futsal national team made history on Thursday by winning the Asian Youth Futsal Championship, beating Iran 2–1 in the final match held in Bahrain. It marks Afghanistan’s first continental title and a landmark gold medal in the nation’s futsal history.
The Afghan side delivered a remarkable campaign, recording consecutive victories over Uzbekistan, Bahrain, China, Thailand, and powerhouse Iran.
The third edition of the Asian Youth Futsal Championship began on October 23, 2025, in Bahrain, featuring eight national teams divided into two groups. The tournament concluded on October 30 with Afghanistan crowned as champions after an unbeaten run.
Officials from the Afghanistan Football Federation and the Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation congratulated the young champions, calling the win “a proud moment for Afghan sport” and “an inspiration for the next generation of players.”
This historic triumph is seen as a major milestone for Afghanistan’s growing futsal program, reflecting years of development and the rising potential of young Afghan athletes on the Asian stage.
