The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with ten teams competing for one of the world’s most prestigious T20 cricket titles. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore opened the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bangalore, with the league scheduled to run until May 31.
Four Afghan cricketers have been selected for this year’s tournament: Rashid Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Noor Ahmad, and E.M. Ghazanfar. Rashid Khan remains a key figure for Gujarat Titans, continuing his role as a premier all-rounder and fast bowler. Since debuting in the IPL in 2017, he has claimed over 700 wickets in T20 cricket and is regarded as one of the most influential Afghan cricketers in the league.
Noor Ahmad will feature for Chennai Super Kings alongside veteran Indian star Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The young Afghan duo bring experience and dynamism to their respective sides, and fans are eager to see them make an impact in the tournament.
