The Afghanistan National Kickboxing Federation has been officially recognised as a member of the World Kickboxing Federation, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.
According to federation officials, Mohammad Sher Hashemi has been appointed as President of the Afghanistan National Kickboxing Federation following the international recognition.
For more than two decades, Afghanistan’s kickboxing federation lacked formal membership at the global level. During this period, Afghan kickboxing athletes frequently missed opportunities to compete abroad due to the absence of international recognition, limited resources, and a lack of institutional support.
Sports officials say the new membership is expected to improve access to international competitions, training programmes and development pathways for Afghan kickboxers, while also strengthening organisational standards within the federation.
The recognition is seen as a long-awaited step toward reintegrating Afghan kickboxing into the international sporting community and providing athletes with clearer routes to compete on the global stage.
