The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has announced the finalists for the 2025 Sport Media Awards, setting the stage for the eighth edition of its annual ceremony to be held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne on April 10.

The top three nominees in each of the eight main categories were selected by a 12-member international jury, reflecting a wide geographic and editorial diversity across modern sports journalism. The final rankings will be determined one day prior to the ceremony.

The shortlisted entries span audio storytelling, photography, video production, and written journalism, highlighting the evolving standards and formats of global sports media. Notable nominations include investigative audio features such as “Tribunes of Terror” from Germany, high-profile visual storytelling from AFP photographers in France, and in-depth documentaries examining themes from elite sport to historical narratives.

In writing categories, entries address both narrative depth and critical analysis, ranging from profiles of controversial sporting figures to broader reflections on governance, power, and ethics in sport. The diversity of topics underscores a growing emphasis on accountability and storytelling beyond match coverage.

Winners in the senior categories will receive financial awards ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, while winners in the Young Reporters categories will be granted scholarships to major international sporting events. Additional special recognitions, including lifetime achievement and investigative reporting awards, will also be presented during the ceremony.

The AIPS Sport Media Awards have emerged as one of the most prestigious recognitions in global sports journalism, celebrating excellence across multiple formats and regions. As the media landscape continues to evolve, the awards reflect broader industry shifts toward multimedia storytelling, investigative depth, and cross-border collaboration. The 2025 edition highlights not only journalistic achievement but also the increasing role of sports media in addressing social, political, and historical dimensions within sport.
