
Daikundi province hosted a one-day traditional arm-wrestling competition featuring 21 athletes from Khadir district as part of efforts to promote local sports.

A traditional arm-wrestling tournament was held on Wednesday in Daikundi’s Khadir district with the participation of 21 athletes from various parts of the district. The event was organised by the Daikundi Department of Physical Education and Sports as part of its initiative to revive and promote indigenous Afghan sporting traditions.
In the final standings, Hafiz Ahmadi secured first place with the highest score, while Ali Ahmad Shujaei finished as runner-up after a competitive series of bouts. Sports officials said the event aimed to strengthen community participation and preserve local athletic heritage.
Prizes were awarded to the top performers at the conclusion of the competition, with organisers emphasising the importance of supporting traditional sports to maintain cultural continuity.
Traditional sports such as arm-wrestling, stone throwing, and wrestling remain popular across rural Afghanistan. Local sports departments have increased efforts to formalise these activities through structured tournaments, aiming to provide saf,e competitive environments and encourage youth engagement.
