The Afghanistan Athletics Federation has staged a talent identification competition in Herat as part of its efforts to strengthen the foundations of athletics and identify promising young athletes across the country.

The event was held at the Herat Football Stadium track, where 55 athletes competed in sprint events across the under-13, under-17 and youth age categories. Participants used the competition to demonstrate their speed, technique and physical potential under competitive conditions.

Officials from the Athletics Federation said the initiative plays a key role in uncovering emerging talent and preparing athletes for long-term development pathways. Based on the results, standout performers will be selected for upcoming training and educational programs aimed at building future national squads.

The federation added that expanding talent identification programs at the provincial level remains a priority as it works to broaden participation and raise standards in Afghan athletics.
