A one-day Buzkashi tournament featuring 50 riders was held on Tuesday in Mazar-e-Sharif, organised by the provincial representation of the Afghanistan Buzkashi Federation in coordination with the Balkh Department of Physical Education and Sports. The event took place at the Haji Maqeim Bay sports field in central Balkh Province.

According to officials, the competition ended with rider Gol Hussain Pahlawan securing the final al-aalaq after bringing the carcass into the halal circle while riding the horse of Haji Sardar Wali Gran. Sardar Wali Gran awarded him a 200-dollar prize and the championship title.

Organisers said the tournament aimed to encourage the growth of Buzkashi and support its continued development in the province.

Buzkashi has long been one of Afghanistan’s most culturally significant traditional sports, with northern provinces such as Balkh regularly hosting tournaments to preserve the discipline and promote local riders.
