JAKARTA, August 20, 2025 – Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, the gold medallist in the floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has announced that she will not be present at the World Championships in Jakarta (Indonesia) in October this year.

This decision was confirmed by her coach, Francisco ‘Xico’ Porath, who told the Brazilian press: “We have decided not to enter her in the competitions this year.”

The 26-year-old said in a statement that she intends to give up floor exercises, but will continue on the other apparatuses: “I am a woman with five knee surgeries. When we understand our limits, it is essential to respect them. I know you like it when I do floor exercises, but I can still show a lot on other apparatuses,” she declared.

Born in Sao Paolo, Rebeca Andrade made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, won a gold medal in vault and silver in the all-around at the Tokyo Olympics, then last year at the Paris Games she won gold on the floor, two silver medals in vault and all-around, and a bronze in the team competition. She is by far the most valuable Brazilian athlete in the country’s Olympic history.
