Nearly 50 cyclists took part in a one-day friendly race from Kabul to Jalalabad, showcasing endurance and teamwork along Afghanistan’s scenic eastern highway.

A one-day friendly cycling race from Kabul to Jalalabad concluded on Friday, October 10, 2025, with the participation of nearly 50 cyclists. The event was organized by the Afghanistan National Cycling and Motorcycling Federation under the General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education and Sports, and financially supported by Gulbahar Investment Company.

The competition featured two main categories, road and mountain racing, while 25 cyclists also performed freestyle demonstrations along the route. Riders from Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Nangarhar, and Laghman provinces took part in the event, which began at Malik Asghar Square in Kabul and ended in Jalalabad city.

After a demanding race across varying terrains, Mohammad Sharif Yaqubi claimed first place, followed by Naqibullah Tota Khil in second and Saeedullah Sadat in third.

Officials said the race aimed to help Afghan cyclists prepare for upcoming national and international tournaments while promoting cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly sport across the country.

Cycling has been gaining momentum in Afghanistan, with growing participation from youth across several provinces. The Kabul–Jalalabad highway, known for its challenging climbs and scenic valleys, has become a favored route for testing endurance and building unity among Afghan athletes.
