A month-long district-level volleyball tournament kicked off in Gilan district with the participation of 12 teams, local officials confirmed on Tuesday. The event is jointly organized by the district representation of the National Volleyball Federation and the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports in Ghazni province.
In the opening match, Lung defeated Khiyatan in a tight 3–2 contest to claim the first victory of the competition. Organizers said the tournament aims to promote volleyball at the community level and foster greater unity among local youth through competitive sport.
District and provincial volleyball competitions have expanded across Afghanistan in recent years as more communities seek structured and inclusive sporting events. These tournaments often serve as platforms for identifying new talent and encouraging wider youth engagement in organized athletics.
