Buzkashi competitions featuring riders from five Afghan provinces were held in Baghlan-e-Markazi district, bringing together athletes and spectators for a two-day showcase of one of the country’s most enduring traditional sports.
A total of 100 chapandaz from Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Samangan, and Baghlan took part in the event, competing for top positions in a series of closely contested matches. Riders demonstrated strength, tactical skill, and experience as they vied to secure more akhir ulaq and gain an advantage over their rivals.
The tournament drew strong interest from residents, with large crowds gathering around the field to follow the competitions, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere throughout the event.
At the conclusion of the matches, officials announced the top three finishers. Pahlawan Sadr-ul-Haq claimed first place, Pahlawan Ramin finished second, and Pahlawan Sifat secured third, with prizes awarded based on the final standings.
Organisers said the event was part of ongoing efforts to preserve traditional Afghan sports and strengthen ties among athletes from different provinces. They added that similar competitions are planned in the future to sustain buzkashi’s role as both a cultural heritage and a competitive sport in Afghanistan.
