NURISTAN: The Football Premier League of Nuristan Province opened Friday with 12 teams from across the province competing in a one month long tournament aiming to promote youth sports and social unity, organizers said.

The opening ceremony, held in Parun, was attended by the provincial governor, officials from the Department of Youth Affairs, representatives of the Afghanistan Football Federation, local elders, and dozens of sports fans.

“This league will not only help young athletes develop their skills but will also foster a sense of unity and discipline among them,” the provincial governor said in his opening remarks.

In the first match, Paruns FC defeated Dewa FC 3-0. Abdullah, who scored once and assisted twice, was named Player of the Match, according to tournament organizers.

The competition will run for about four weeks, with the championship team receiving a trophy, medals, and cash prizes. Matches will feature clubs representing multiple districts and the provincial capital.

Sports officials said the league is part of wider efforts to encourage healthy activities among youth and promote peace and solidarity through sports in the region.
