
KABUL, July 4, 2018 – Afghanistan Sports Journalists National Federation (ASJF) celebrated World Sports Journalists Day inside a boxing ring like it was 94 years ago when AIPS was born in 1924 in Paris.
The idea was to repeat the history of AIPS in Afghanistan by bringing sports journalists and athletes inside a ring to celebrate AIPS’ birthday and World Sports Journalists Day.
Sports reporters, athletes, representatives of sports organizations, Olympic Committee of Afghanistan, General directorate for Sports and Physical Education, SLFC and Afghanistan government were present at the occasion.
ASJF with the collaboration of SLFC Afghanistan brought about the idea, and acknowledged sports journalists and their work in Afghanistan.
ASJF president Sayer Zaland thanked SLFC and all journalists who were present at the event and also spoke about the history of the day.
He explained that AIPS was born on the 2nd of July back in 1924 in Paris inside a boxing ring, but now has worldwide connections and is recognized by IOC, FIFA and all other sports bodies.
Zaland expressed his happiness on the celebration of the day, as it was on 2nd July 1924 in Paris.
Aanullah Noristani, a representative of SLFC, also congratulated journalists on their day and thanked ASJF for the concept of the celebration in Afghanistan.
Rohullah Nikpa, the only Afghanistan medalist in the Olympics was also present, and he also thanked ASJF for organising such a historical ceremony for sports journalists in Afghanistan.
