The Indian Premier League (IPL) has issued disciplinary actions against players for breaches of its Code of Conduct during the 2026 season.
Abhishek Sharma, all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, was fined 25 percent of his match fees and assigned one demerit point for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Sharma admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, which is final and binding under IPL regulations.
In a separate case, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 24 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate in their match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. As this marked the team’s second over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22, the remaining members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were fined INR six lakh each or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever was lower.
The IPL Code of Conduct is designed to uphold professionalism, fairness, and competitive integrity in the tournament. Level 1 offences, such as dissent, minor misconduct, or breach of playing regulations, carry fines and demerit points, while repeated slow over-rate offences incur heavier financial penalties. The league has consistently enforced these rules to maintain the standard and credibility of one of the world’s most prominent cricket leagues.
