Kabul: The Afghanistan National Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports Directorate announced the successful completion of a golf selection tournament in Kabul on Monday, featuring 45 players from across the capital.
The event, organized by the Afghanistan National Golf Federation in collaboration with the Directorate, was held at the Qargha Golf Course and divided into two categories: Amateur and Handicap.
At the conclusion of the competition, 20 players secured places on the Kabul provincial golf team. Noor Ahmad Fazel claimed first place, followed by Heshmatullah Sarwari in second, and Abdul Razzaq Sarwari in third.
Speaking after the event, a representative of the National Olympic Directorate said: “These tournaments are vital for talent identification and for the promotion of golf in Afghanistan, a sport that is still in its early stages of development here.”
Golf in Afghanistan has witnessed slow but steady growth over the past decade, with the Qargha Golf Course serving as the country’s main venue. Selection tournaments like this aim to prepare players for national and regional events, contributing to the sport’s broader development.
