A one-day running competition in Daikundi’s Kajrān district brought together 65 participants, reflecting the growing importance of local sports initiatives in provinces with limited formal infrastructure. The event was organised by the district’s athletics federation branch in cooperation with the provincial Sports and Physical Education Directorate.

Shamsullah and Bakhtiyar secured the top positions in a contest designed to promote athletics and offer a structured recreational outlet for youth. The turnout and level of participation underscored how community-driven events have become a lifeline for athletic activity across remote regions.

With national-level sports programmes hindered by reduced resources, district competitions have taken on a vital role in sustaining interest in athletics. In mountainous and remote provinces such as Daikundi, running events remain among the most accessible forms of sport, requiring minimal facilities while fostering social cohesion and youth engagement.

The Kajrān race is part of a broader pattern of local initiatives emerging to preserve athletic participation in the absence of wider institutional support.
