A regional Pehlwani (traditional wrestling) competition involving 280 athletes concluded in Mahmoud Raqi, Kapisa province. The event was organized by the National Pehlwani Federation’s local office in collaboration with Kapisa’s Physical Education and Sports Department.
Athletes from Kapisa, Panjshir, and Parwan provinces competed across various weight categories. In the final standings, Kapisa secured first place, Panjshir came second, and Parwan placed third.
The two day tournament aimed to strengthen relationships among wrestlers from the participating provinces. At the closing ceremony, top performers were awarded championship certificates and medals by the provincial sports department.
Pehlwani wrestling, a centuries-old traditional sport in Afghanistan, remains popular across the country, with regional competitions helping preserve cultural heritage and encourage inter-provincial sportsmanship among young athletes.
