Kylian Mbappé heads into the FIFA World Cup 2026 year with major international records within reach, as FIFA highlighted the France forward’s chase for milestones at both country and World Cup level.

FIFA said Mbappé has 55 goals in 94 appearances for France, leaving him two goals short of Olivier Giroud’s all-time national record of 57.

The governing body also noted that Mbappé has scored 12 World Cup goals across two tournaments, one behind Just Fontaine’s France record of 13, and four behind Miroslav Klose’s all-time World Cup record of 16.

FIFA said France’s build-up includes upcoming fixtures and a World Cup campaign that could give Mbappé the chance to move ahead in the record lists if France make a deep run in the tournament.

Giroud ended his France career as the national team’s top scorer with 57 goals in 137 matches, while Fontaine’s 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup remains the single-tournament scoring record.
