The Nik Abad volleyball team was crowned champion of the Gizab district after defeating Omid 3-2 in a closely contested final on Tuesday.

The 15-day tournament, organized by the Uruzgan Provincial Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, brought together seven local teams aiming to promote volleyball and nurture young talent in the region.

Meanwhile, in Khas Uruzgan district, a separate tournament featuring 23 teams has kicked off and will run for 25 days. Officials say the event is designed to boost youth engagement in sports and discover promising volleyball players across the province.

Volleyball has seen a surge in popularity in Afghanistan’s rural provinces in recent years. Local tournaments like these play a crucial role in offering young athletes competitive opportunities and keeping the spirit of sports alive despite limited resources and facilities.
