KABUL, July 23, 2025 – In the midst of roaring fans and the electrifying atmosphere of the Kabul Cricket Stadium, a young man stands with a microphone in one hand, a small notebook in the other, and a world of dreams in his heart. His name is Amir Afghan.
Amir is a young sports journalist for SolhSport TV in Herat province, a member of the Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation (ASJF), and a representative of dozens of passionate young Afghans who are entering the world of sports journalism through dedication and love for the craft. “When I stepped onto the field, it felt like I was witnessing the interpretation of a dream. For me, Shpageeza is not just a league, it’s a school.”
From Herat to Kabul: A New Chapter in Sports Journalism
This is Amir’s first time in Kabul to cover the Shpageeza Cricket League, and he finds himself not only among some of the country’s most prominent players, coaches, and fellow sports journalists, but also on a meaningful path toward professional growth.“I learned here that sport journalism is not just about holding a mic; it’s about responsibility, commitment, and telling the truth with clarity.”
From match analysis to player interviews, Amir brings the voice of responsible journalism from the heart of the stadium to the wider audience. He describes his experience covering the Shpageeza League as a practical training ground, a kind of learning that no textbook can offer.
ASJF: A Home and a Pillar of Support
Amir Afghan does not view his progress as a purely personal achievement. As an active member of the Afghanistan Sports Journalists Federation, he recognizes the critical role the Federation has played in his journey. “If I’m standing here today, it’s because I am an active member of the ASJF. It gave us the feeling that we are not alone in this field, and it supports our legitimate aspirations.”
The Federation provides journalists with media guidelines, coordination, access to information, and professional development opportunities. It’s a place where young sports journalists feel protected and empowered under a united banner.
Back to Herat, With New Eyes
Amir says that in the coming days, he will continue to pursue his goals, but when he returns to his home province of Herat, he won’t be the same person.“When I go back to Herat, I won’t be the same Amir. I want to motivate young journalists, take part in small workshops, share my experiences with fellow sports journalists, and give a new face to sports journalism in my region.”
One Step, A Hundred Aspirations
Amir Afghan is more than just a sports journalist, he is the living story of a new generation. He represents those young people who, despite facing challenges, limitations, and uncertain futures, have chosen to walk the path of genuine and professional sports journalism.
Covering the 10th season of the Shpageeza League, with the support of the Federation and his own dedication, has given Amir a renewed belief: “If your heart is pure, your goal is high, and you find the right opportunity, your dreams become reality.”
