A narrow win over Samangan sends Panjshir into the last eight as the first phase of the Yama Petrol Afghanistan Buzkashi League comes to a close.

Panjshir booked its place in the quarterfinals of the Yama Petrol Afghanistan Buzkashi League after edging Samangan 2–1 on the fourth day of competition at Kabul’s Yakatoot Stadium.

The match, which marked the league’s tenth fixture, concluded the opening phase of the seventh edition of the tournament. Panjshir’s victory ensured qualification among the top eight teams, ending Samangan’s hopes of advancing.

With the group stage completed, the league now shifts into its knockout phase, featuring teams from Kunduz, Balkh, Herat, Baghlan, Panjshir, Badakhshan, Sar-e Pol, and Takhar. The quarterfinals begin on Saturday, with Badakhshan set to face Panjshir in the opening match at 11:00 a.m.

The seventh edition of the Yama Petrol Afghanistan Buzkashi League began four days ago, bringing together 11 teams from Kunduz, Faryab, Balkh, Badakhshan, Takhar, Bamyan, Sar-e Pol, Panjshir, Samangan, Baghlan, and Herat. Featuring both domestic and foreign chapandazan, the tournament is scheduled to continue for another eight days, reinforcing Buzkashi’s role as one of Afghanistan’s most organized and nationally structured traditional sports competitions.
