Seventy athletes competed in a regional Kurash tournament organized in Dawlatabad District of Balkh Province to promote traditional wrestling.

A regional Kurash competition featuring 70 athletes was held on Monday, October 13, 2025, in Dawlatabad District of Balkh Province. The event was organized by the provincial branch of the Kurash Federation under the supervision of the Balkh Department of Physical Education and Sports.

According to the organizers, five of the matches ended in draws, while 30 athletes triumphed over their opponents after a series of intense and competitive bouts.

The one-night tournament aimed to promote the traditional sport of Kurash, encourage community participation, and strengthen sportsmanship among young athletes in the region.
Kurash, a traditional form of wrestling native to Central Asia, holds deep cultural significance in Afghanistan, especially in the northern provinces. Events like the Dawlatabad competition play a vital role in preserving the sport’s heritage, fostering local talent, and preparing promising athletes for provincial and national championships.
