
Sar-e-Pul sealed a dominant 7–0 victory over Badakhshan to claim the Yama Petrol Afghanistan Buzkashi League crown in Kabul.

Sar-e-Pul were crowned champions of the Yama Petrol Afghanistan Buzkashi League (Seventh Edition) after defeating Badakhshan by 7–0 points in the final at Yaka Toot Stadium, concluding an 11-day national tournament featuring 11 provincial teams.
Organised by the Afghanistan Buzkashi, Spear Throwing and Traditional Games Federation in cooperation with the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport, the league brought together teams from across the country, along with several foreign chapandazan, highlighting the growing structure of Afghanistan’s traditional sport competitions.
Badakhshan finished as runners-up, while Baghlan secured third place and Kunduz claimed fourth.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Molawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of Physical Education and Sport, praised the organisation of the league and expressed optimism about the future of the sport.
“It is encouraging to see the Buzkashi League conducted in an organised manner, and we hope these chapandazan will continue to develop and represent Afghanistan strongly in future competitions,” Wasiq said.
Qari Mohammad Yousuf Ahmadi, Head of Afghanistan National Radio and Television, described sport as a force for unity and underlined the importance of security in hosting national events.
“Sport brings people together and strengthens social bonds. Providing a secure environment is essential for the continuity of such competitions,” Ahmadi said.
The league’s title sponsor, Yama Petrol, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting traditional sports, with company representative Javid Ghafoori confirming continued financial backing.
At the conclusion of the tournament, trophies, medals and certificates were awarded to the top teams and standout chapandazan. As champions, Sar-e-Pul received the championship cup, gold medals and a Lexus 2022 vehicle.
The Afghanistan Buzkashi League is the country’s most structured national competition for the traditional equestrian sport, providing provincial teams regular competitive exposure. This year’s seventh edition featured teams from Kunduz, Faryab, Balkh, Badakhshan, Takhar, Bamyan, Sar-e-Pul, Panjshir, Samangan, Baghlan and Herat, reinforcing the league’s role in sustaining and professionalising Buzkashi across Afghanistan.
