
A two day Sonker tournament began in Ferozkoh, Ghor province, to scout top players for Afghanistan’s national team.

The Sonker tournament officially kicked off on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) in Ferozkoh, the capital of Ghor province, organized by the Sonker Federation in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports.
The opening ceremony was attended by Jan Mohammad Haidari, the Technical and Professional Deputy of the Olympic Directorate, along with local athletes and sports officials. Twenty players from two sports clubs are competing in the two-day event.
According to the organizers, the main objective of the tournament is to identify talented players for potential selection to Afghanistan’s national Sonker team.
Sonker is an emerging sport in Afghanistan that has gained growing popularity in recent years across several provinces. The tournament is part of the federation’s ongoing efforts to promote and expand the sport at the national level.
