A major buzkashi tournament with the participation of 100 riders wrapped up in the Dasht-e Qala district after three days of intense competition. The event was organized by the provincial representation of the National Buzkashi Federation in coordination with the Takhar Directorate of Physical Education and Sports.

In the final stage, riders Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Khodayi, Zikr, Zabiullah, Dadullah and Samiullah successfully carried the finishing flags into the halal circle, earning the event’s top awards. Organizers described the tournament as one of the most vibrant gatherings in the district this season, noting strong participation from riders across multiple villages.

Sports officials said the event helped promote both the competitive edge and the social cohesion that buzkashi brings to the region, while also offering an opportunity to identify emerging local talent in a sport deeply rooted in northern Afghan culture.

Buzkashi remains one of Afghanistan’s most historic sporting traditions, particularly in the northern provinces where it continues to draw large crowds and strong local participation. Takhar’s Dasht-e Qala district has become an increasingly active hub for the sport, with regular tournaments aimed at preserving cultural heritage and developing the next generation of riders.
