
A traditional wrestling tournament featuring 100 athletes from four districts concluded in Shinkay District, with Qalat wrestlers taking the overall title.

A one-day traditional wrestling competition was held in Shinkay District of Zabul Province, organized by the Department of National and Traditional Sports under the provincial Directorate of Physical Education and Sports. A total of 100 wrestlers from Shinkay, Atghar, Shamalzai, Nawbahar and the provincial capital Qalat took part in the event.
Officials said the matches were closely contested throughout the day, highlighting strong participation from across the region. In the final standings, athletes representing Qalat secured the championship.
One of the organizers said the purpose of the tournament was to preserve traditional sports and encourage young athletes to engage in culturally rooted physical activities.
Traditional wrestling remains one of Afghanistan’s oldest and most widely practiced rural sports. Zabul Province regularly hosts local tournaments aimed at promoting cultural heritage and supporting grassroots athletes.
