The fifth edition of the Afghanistan Premier Volleyball League is scheduled to begin on 14 October, with ten teams competing in two groups over 13 days, following the tournament draw held at the General Directorate of Radio.

The draw ceremony brought together senior sports officials, representatives of the national volleyball federation and broadcasting authorities ahead of one of the country’s major domestic volleyball competitions.

Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, director-general of the National Olympic, Physical Education and Sports administration, attended the ceremony alongside technical and professional deputy Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran and General Director of Radio Qari Mohammad Yousuf Ahmadi.

Other officials from the Afghanistan Volleyball Federation and the General Directorate of Radio were also present.

Speaking at the ceremony, Wasiq described volleyball as one of Afghanistan’s leading sports and said its popularity had expanded across the provinces.

He also praised the work of the national volleyball federation and cited Afghanistan’s runner-up finish at the 2024 Central Asian CAFA Cup as a significant achievement.

Wasiq acknowledged the contribution of Milli Sport to domestic sports coverage, particularly its live broadcasts of sporting events for audiences across the country.

Mawlawi Zia-ul-Haq Haqmal, deputy director of the General Directorate of Radio, described the volleyball league as an important national competition.

He said the broadcaster would work to provide live coverage of the league’s matches, continuing its previous arrangements while introducing improvements to the presentation.

Haqmal also pledged continued cooperation with the national sports administration in broadcasting major sporting programmes.

Mohammad Arif Paiman, administrative deputy of the Afghanistan Volleyball Federation, said the league offered more than competitive matches, describing volleyball as a means of bringing communities closer together.

He urged players to compete with commitment and observe the rules and principles of the sport.

Paiman said the federation placed particular importance on the league as an opportunity to identify promising players who could contribute to national and international competitions in the future.

The fifth edition is scheduled to start on 22 Mizan 1405, corresponding to 14 October 2026, and run for 13 days.

The announcement confirmed ten participating teams and two groups but did not provide the team names, group allocations, match fixtures or final venue details.
