The inaugural Logar T20 Cricket Cup has begun in Afghanistan's Logar province, bringing together 10 teams for a 17-day tournament designed to expand competitive cricket opportunities for local players.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board's Domestic Cricket Department and the Logar Provincial Cricket Department are coordinating the competition.

The participating teams have been divided into two groups of five, with each side scheduled to play four matches during the opening stage.

Under the tournament format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

The structure ensures that every participating team has four opportunities to compete before the knockout stage, rather than facing elimination after a single defeat.

Organisers say the competition aims to support the development of privately organised cricket tournaments in Logar and give young players more opportunities to gain match experience.

Improving players' skills and strengthening cricket across the province are also among the stated objectives.

The tournament offers a competitive setting in which emerging cricketers can test their abilities over several matches, while the group stage gives teams an opportunity to develop consistency before the semi-finals.

With 10 teams taking part, the opening stage is expected to comprise 20 group matches, based on the announced format.

The two semi-finals will determine which teams advance to the final.

The organisers have not yet announced the participating teams' names, the complete fixture list, the opening match result or the date of the final.

The first edition of the Logar T20 Cricket Cup adds a structured competition to the province's cricket calendar, with the emphasis on giving local players regular matches and opportunities to develop.
