Afghan cycling enthusiast and social media activist Maywand Fazli has completed an approximately 1,100-kilometre bicycle journey from Herat to Kabul in 14 days, drawing recognition from senior sports officials in the capital.

Fazli travelled the distance on an ordinary bicycle, completing a journey across Afghanistan that became the focus of a welcome ceremony at the National Olympic Committee headquarters in Kabul.

The ceremony was attended by Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of the General Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education and Sports; Dad Mohammad Payenda Akhtari, head of Olympic affairs; and Sayed Nabiullah Sadat, president of the Cycling Federation.

Wasiq welcomed Fazli and encouraged him to present an accurate account of his journey to the public.

Akhtari also welcomed the cyclist and spoke about the ability of people to travel during the day and at night. He expressed the sports administration's willingness to support sporting activities.

The central achievement was Fazli's completion of the approximately 1,100-kilometre route in 14 days using a conventional bicycle rather than specialised cycling equipment.

His journey brought attention to long-distance recreational cycling in Afghanistan, while the reception in Kabul marked official recognition of the effort.
