Kandahar: Kandahar came alive with the thrill of traditional wrestling today as the Directorate of Olympic Committee, Physical Training, and Sports organized a special competition.
Wrestlers from four leading local clubs, like Hewad, Ettifaq, Ahmad Shahi, and Khushal Afghan, faced off in a series of intense bouts, displaying remarkable strength, skill, and sportsmanship.
The event kicked off at 5:00 PM at the Salawat Hemat Wrestling Ground in Panjwayi district.
The arena was filled with passionate spectators, many of whom cheered on their favorite athletes with traditional cheers and chants, creating a festive atmosphere.
Organizers stated that the festival’s purpose was to preserve Afghanistan’s national sporting heritage and promote unity and friendship among athletes.
“Traditional wrestling is part of our culture and history,” said an official to ASJF. “By holding these events, we not only keep this heritage alive but also bring communities together through sport.”
