Georgia Stuns France to Reach Historic EuroBasket Quarter-Finals
TBILISI” In a night to remember, Georgia defeated France 80–70 in their most significant basketball victory to date, advancing to the EuroBasket 2025 quarter-finals for the first time in history.
Led by standout performances from Tornike Shengelia (24 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast) and Kamar Baldwin (24 pts), Georgia took control early and never backed down. Shengelia hit a pivotal three-pointer in the closing minutes, sealing a win that will go down in Georgian sports history.
Despite missing stars like Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert, France entered as heavy favorites. But Georgia’s relentless defense and red-hot shooting — hitting 10 of 18 from beyond the arc compared to France’s 6 of 36 — proved too much.
“This was Georgia’s game to take,” said GSWA Secretary General Zurab Talakvadze, as the nation celebrated a breakthrough moment.
Next up: a fiery quarter-final against Finland and NBA star Lauri Markkanen. With momentum on their side and belief surging at home, Georgia is ready for the next battle.
