
A one-day traditional wrestling event in Ghor brought together 24 athletes competing for local honors and recognition.

The Directorate of Physical Education, Olympic and Sports Affairs of Ghor province announced that a Rostami wrestling tournament was held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in Chaharsada district with the participation of local officials and community leaders.
The event was attended by Jan Mohammad Haidari, Deputy Technical and Professional Director of the Ghor Olympic and Sports Department, along with district authorities and sports representatives.
Twenty-four wrestlers competed across weight categories from 60 to 80 kilograms in a series of closely contested bouts. The final results were as follows:
First place: Ziaullah Shujaat
Second place: Abdul Hamid Mohammadi
Third place: Habibullah Habibi
Speaking after the competition, Haidari said the tournament aimed to “promote traditional sports and identify talented local wrestlers.” He added that such events play an important role in encouraging youth participation and preserving Afghanistan’s indigenous sporting heritage.
The one-day event concluded with an awards ceremony, where medals and certificates were presented to the top three finishers by local sports officials.
Rostami wrestling, a centuries-old Afghan sport rooted in rural traditions, remains a popular form of athletic and cultural expression across the country, particularly in the central and northern provinces.
