A seminar on equestrian rules and regulations was conducted for athletes ahead of the eighth edition of Afghanistan’s national selection horse racing competition in Herat province.
Organized by the Afghanistan Equestrian Federation under the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, the session was led by instructors Qudratullah Rasekh and Dr. Mohammad Atiq Ahmadzai, focusing on technical and regulatory aspects of the sport.
The competition, hosted in Herat, will feature two racing styles — Yorgha and sprint — over distances of 800 and 1,200 meters. The event is set to officially commence today and will run for one week.
A total of 71 riders and horses from 16 provinces are participating, with the aim of selecting 16 riders and 16 horses across both categories to form the national team.
Equestrian sports remain deeply rooted in Afghanistan’s sporting culture, with national selection events serving as a key mechanism for identifying talent across provinces and maintaining competitive standards at the national level.
