Over 70 riders from 13 provinces compete in Herat, with national team spots at stake in ongoing equestrian tournament.

The eighth edition of Afghanistan’s national equestrian tournament, sponsored by e&, is underway in Herat province, featuring competitions in both Yorgha and sprint racing formats.

Races are being held over distances of 800 and 1,200 meters in both categories, with participation from 14 teams representing 13 provinces. A total of 72 riders and 72 horses are competing for selection to the national team.

At the conclusion of the tournament, 16 riders and 16 horses will be منتخب (selected) across both disciplines to represent Afghanistan at the national level.

On the second day of the competition, 26 pairs of riders and horses competed, with 26 advancing to the next stage after securing victories in their respective races.

Equestrian competitions in Afghanistan serve not only as sporting events but also as key selection platforms, drawing participation from multiple provinces and reinforcing traditional sports within a structured national framework.
