The growing scale of wushu competitions in Kabul highlights increasing interest among young athletes and the expanding role of grassroots tournaments in shaping Afghanistan’s future combat sports talent.

The National Wushu Federation, in cooperation with the Kabul Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, organized a two-day talent identification tournament in Kabul with the participation of 200 athletes from clubs across the city.

Competitors took part in various weight divisions and age categories, including junior, teenage, youth, and senior levels, as part of ongoing efforts to identify emerging talent in the sport.

At the conclusion of the tournament, 44 athletes were selected to advance to the Kabul city Selected competitions, where they will compete for places in higher-level events. Officials described the program as an important step toward strengthening the development structure of wushu at the grassroots level.

The event reflects continued investment in combat sports development in Afghanistan, particularly through local competitions aimed at expanding participation and discovering promising athletes from club systems.
