
The GCC Games Doha 2026 officially opened in a vibrant ceremony highlighting regional friendship, unity, and sporting excellence.

The GCC Games Doha 2026 officially got underway in Doha under the patronage of Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.
The opening ceremony, held at Al Shaqab, brought together senior Gulf sports officials, Olympic leaders and athletes in a celebration of regional cooperation and the unifying power of sport.
More than 1,400 athletes and officials from across the Gulf region are taking part in the Games, competing in 17 sports over 11 days in world-class venues across Doha.
Addressing the ceremony, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani said the Games demonstrate the important role of sport in strengthening friendship, dialogue and understanding among Gulf nations.
He also reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting athletes and promoting regional sporting development through international-standard facilities and competitions.
Competitions will be hosted at major venues including Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre and Duhail Arena, all of which have previously hosted major international sporting events.
The GCC Games Doha 2026 continue Qatar’s growing legacy as a leading destination for regional and global sport while creating new opportunities for Gulf athletes to compete in an atmosphere of unity and friendship.
