A one-day friendly boxing tournament in memory of the late Abdul Hai Azizpour, one of Afghanistan’s first three-star boxing coaches, has begun in Kabul.
The competition is being organized by the Afghanistan Boxing Federation, under the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, at the federation’s gymnasium.
A total of 120 boxers from Kabul’s four zones and three districts are competing across 10 weight categories.
Organizers said the tournament was arranged to commemorate Azizpour’s contributions to Afghan boxing while providing local athletes with an opportunity to compete in a friendly environment.
The competition is scheduled to conclude later the same day.
Abdul Hai Azizpour was regarded as one of Afghanistan’s pioneering boxing coaches and played a significant role in the development of the sport. Memorial competitions held in his honor seek to preserve his legacy while encouraging the continued growth of boxing and providing competitive opportunities for young Afghan athletes.
