A newly installed artificial football pitch at Ghazni Football Stadium was officially inaugurated on Saturday during a ceremony attended by senior officials from Afghanistan’s sports administration, the Afghanistan Football Federation and local authorities.
The project aims to expand sports infrastructure, improve football facilities and create better conditions for training and competition while supporting the development of young football talent in Ghazni province.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran, the organization’s Technical and Professional Deputy, Mohammad Yousuf Kargar, President of the Afghanistan Football Federation, members of the FIFA Development Committee, officials from the sports administration and football federation, representatives of the Ghazni Directorate of Sports and local community leaders.
During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the importance of investing in sports infrastructure and improving facilities available to athletes. They also acknowledged the contributions of the institutions and individuals involved in completing the project.
Officials said the artificial pitch will provide a modern venue for football matches and training sessions while helping identify and develop young players in the province.
To mark the opening of the facility, Pamir Ghazni and Ariana Khost played a friendly match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
According to officials, expanding modern sports facilities will contribute to improving playing standards, increasing participation in football and supporting the long-term growth of the sport across Afghanistan.
Artificial football pitches allow year-round training and competition with lower maintenance requirements than natural grass surfaces. In Afghanistan, the expansion of football infrastructure is part of broader efforts to strengthen grassroots development and provide improved facilities for players across the country.
