The competition covered weight categories ranging from 53 to 120 kilograms. According to the sports authorities, 95 athletes were selected for the national powerlifting team, while another 14 were chosen for Afghanistan’s upcoming international competitions.
Kabul leads provincial standings
Kabul finished first among the participating provinces, followed by Herat in second and Ghor in third.
In the age-group categories, Matin Shirin Sokhan took first place among sub-juniors, Mansour Mosadiq topped the junior category, Fawad Shirin Sokhan finished first among seniors, and Noor Ahmad Tajik won the masters category.
Selection for national and international competition
The main purpose of the four-day event was to identify athletes for Afghanistan’s national team and select competitors for future international competitions.
Officials attending the closing ceremony included Hafiz Ahmad Jan Zadran, the technical and professional deputy of the General Directorate of Olympics, Physical Education and Sports; Noor Ahmad Sakhi Zada, president of the Powerlifting Federation; other sports officials and participating athletes.
At the conclusion of the championships, top performers received belts, medals and certificates of appreciation.
